A River of Stones Post #30
Sunshine through the lace curtain makes patterns on the wall I haven't seen in far too long. Lovely, though they only last a little while.
*Neither my collage fabric nor my work. Sent to me by a friend. Origin unknown to me.

The eyes of the dog who had been tied and left in the extreme cold with no way to seek shelter only said: "I'm sorry."

I've noticed that now that I'm supposed to be noticing things I notice a whole lot more than I ever noticed before even if I don't tell you about it. Have you noticed?

I'm supposed to be upset when I find my dog's hairs on my black pants while sitting at my desk at work but secretly it makes me feel like he's there with me.

Old man in a jaunty Irish cap, sitting on a stool swinging his cane and given the task of selling something that I politely declined but never really did hear said, "That goat is gonna get right out of that tub."

Lawrence the goat went to his knees this day, face raised to the heavens, caprine smile, appreciating fully the sun.

There's a soft, snoring snout at the good end of the couch in the exact place my butt wishes to be so I resign myself to the other end-the wrong end-and don't stay very long. I think how it would be if the snout weren't there. I'd be really, really comfortable but I'd be really, really alone.
***And, on a completely unrelated note: For those of you who are Brit-com fans of Keeping Up Appearances and the infamous Hyacinth Bucket.... the sugar bowl in the pic is my "Royal Doulton china with the hand painted periwinkles!"
I found it last week in a thrift shop! I was incredibly excited!
Addtionally though, the name periwinkle was invented for the Keeping Up Appearances television show. The actual china used was Colclough Braganza which was part of Royal Doulton, but which was discontinued in
1996. But still.....
Soooo......it's Colclough Braganza on my Bucket List! ;)
Hmm.....I wonder where the original set is now.......?

I've noticed that I'm not very good at noticing things outside my small world. I go through my day, watching the Wonderland that unfolds inside my head, rarely dripping colors for anyone else to see. I'm like one of those people who is perpetually texting except my thumbs don't move.

The Thanksgiving pumpkin, once filled with pointy sunflower seeds and kindness to squirrels, sits lopsided and deflated on the back deck having done its job with no real thanks. The dog pees on it when he thinks I'm not looking but he'll never admit it.

The snow whips around Old Lugh's bark with a force that would make a lesser tree crack. But there he stands, greeting me each new day, never complaining, even allowing the winter squirrels to play in his wild, old man hair.

THE WABI SABI OF IT....
The fact of the matter is I had always intended to post my most intricate, intimate, full sized colllages here but they don't seem to want to be in public. Flashes, words too small, things don't fit...but that's the wabi sabi of it, I suppose.
So, when I'm no longer here don't let anyone throw out my books..........

I looked in the mirror today and remembered that I was no longer a blonde.
That I no longer wore fancy dress-up clothes or did my eyes just so or had perfect, raspberry colored nails to tap things with. Now my hair is of faded copper, worn in
You'll Never Get A Man Like That pigtails and I dress in You Really Must Try Harder ragged gypsy skirts. Make-up is something I usually forget and there is often dirt under my fingernails from the failed blueberry patch out back. And, on days when I am very lucky, I smell of goat.

There is a distinct lack of light now that the snow has melted in a rare December thaw. The dog, who insists on a fresh patch of snow for each pee, amuses me with a doggie ballet as he performs his dance on the last, small mound. It's good to start the day laughing in the dark.

A RIVER of STONES PROJECT Post #1
I am quite taken with the beauty and genius of A RIVER of STONES PROJECT, a universal writing project that asks that you post a simple, yet meaningful post each day of January 2011 regarding something you have noticed that day. Since I am beginning this on January 2, I will continue to February 2, Ground Hog Day, which I think is appropriate. And, since this is my collage blog, I will try (try) to also post a wee bit, piece or entire collage related to my post. Though I evoke the philosophy of wabi sabi and promise naught. ;)
I will, however, write....for if you have the passion to put quill to paper then there is nothing else you can do.
Click on A River of Stones icon to your right to bring you to the page of brilliance and light in the writing community.
Thanks for reading!

It's funny, you know, how you can sit around thinking about what you wish to
be, and then, in one simple, unobtrusive moment the Universe, because you have put forth just a small effort, rewards you by taking you exactly where you need to go.
