Mad Woman in the Attic

TRUNK AT AUCTION:  The Back Story

In May of 2006, Mimi Foxmorton, collector of junque,
bid at auction on a disregarded sea trunk.
A few coins later, the bid was won and the trunk shipped to Foxmorton's home
 in upstate New York.
After reviewing the contents at great length, Foxmorton has opted to
make the Moorfields journals public in hope of preserving their unique story.
What follows herein, is the extraordinary, often grievous, tale of the Moorfields lineage.
The information within is set forth here, as is, with no editorial commentary.
Foxmorton lets the story speak for itself.

~
If there is anything I adore more than well, what I already adore, it's the history and secrets of Bedlam.  I couldn't pass up the chance to share with you in this REAL TOADS challenge.
The Mad Woman in the Attic intrigues me.  I adore her and her courage to no end.

Out of the realm of a usual post, (and for that I apologize....kind of...) I will be truthful that to partake of the contents of the trunk you will need to scroll about on the journal blog to become informed.  The link I will post takes you to the first page-the time line that has been constructed from the contents of the trunk as a whole.  From there you may journey as far to the edge of the Moorfields madness as you wish.  My humble thanks to those of you who take time from your day to walk the halls of my Bedlam.

Imaginary Garden with Real...Dolls.....

MUNDANE

Once, long ago, when I was very young,
I was told to put my imagination away.
It won't do , they said, to speak of fantastical things;
of dancing with goats and a yellow dog which sings.
And hats are not for ponies as that is very strange.
The rules say you must be ordinary.
Silent.
Normal, like us.
My brother paid me a dollar not to speak.
I took it.

Today's REAL TOADS challenge is a Doll Challenge and what wonderful dolls they are!
I was drawn to the particular doll pictured here-absolutley LOVE the creativity of the artist!- but I urge you have a wee peek at the rest of the creations over at Real Toads-and some of the writing they inspired as well.

IMAGINARY TERESA

What a fun and creative day today is going to be!

My lovely Goat Sister, Teresa from
RAZZAMADAZZLE
is the featured artist for the Sunday Challenge over at
REAL TOADS

Please do take a moment to check out both sites.
You will love and be inspired by the beauty and diversity of  the work.

I'd like to take a moment to thank all those blog artists who provide us with weekly challenges.
Their willingness to do the extra work gives people like me a reason to create.
And while we all are creating constantly inside our heads.....it's lovely to have a reason to set it forth and know someone else out there cares.
(We artists are sensitive like that.)  ;)
They have my humble gratitude!

And so.......on with Teresa's show!

There are a number of photographs to choose from today.
Here's my pick of Teresa's work.

Forgotten    Razzamadazzle

It's not so bad as it looks, really.
One grows accustomed, even comes to revel, in the hush.
I never was much one for neatness
and the cant of the carved granite bearing my name
affords me an unseasoned view.
"Tilting at tombstones." I once said aloud.
But there was no one there to hear my quixotic jest.
It is a long time, this eternity,
just me and my musings.
But there is the coming of  cool rain in the air
and when strangers happen by
they become friends.

The Journal of Violet Moorfields

"Sir, you may indeed ornament the blaze upon your hoop in any manner you discern gladdening, but I deem it scarcely conceivable that you shall ever sway my pig to vault through it."

All I ever wanted was a tiny place where I could belong.

Not a grand house.
Not a fancy house.
But a simple house.
A house with history and mystery.
A house that loved me as much as I loved her.

A house that would breathe synchronously with my spirit.

I would hang tattered lace curtains and allow my goats to often visit the wood stove in the kitchen.

The neighbors would say I was odd.
But that would be ok.

I'd have a cow who loved me and knew her name.
And  my dog would always know my dreams.

I'd collect old things belonging to the dead and promise to love them because no one else would.

And wear a handmade shawl and always a hat and never clean the mud from my boots.

I would read at night by candlelight.
And listen to the hush.

I'm quite sure that mice would live in my walls.

But the first thing I would do, the very first thing, would be to plant wild violets everywhere.

And my cat would slumber there.
