Hoarfrost
by Fox c. 2012
I bear in memory
strolling Yule streets
sodden hem stiffening with rime clinging to boots
packages tucked in my old basket
some freshly wrapped in brown paper from the shops
an enchanted evergreen bough brushed my cheek
as I passed Old Willf selling chestnuts
on the street corner
and I wished it were you.

Merry Christmas My Friend
That's great! I was there, just from your description. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
You have created some fabulous gifts for a lucky someone.
sounds like a great shopping day and someone very lucky will get a gift, wonderful
You have captured some of the old world charm I still associate with Christmas time.
Thank you for your contribution to Real Toads in 2012.
Regardless of time frame or backdrop, that holiday feeling permeates and warms ones nostalgic backside...great writing and Happy Holidays!
oh, the wishes...
I love all of the old fashioned treasures you post here - the basket is intriguing. The poem took me back in time to years when shopping was careful, not excessive, and one put one's careful purchases in a basket instead of an SUV!
My girls and I enjoyed our annual viewing of Little Women last night. Your poem feels like a scene taken directly therefrom. And I love it!
so beautiful... I see it as you tell it.
A beautiful Christmas story. Merry Christmas!!
Beautiful! Happy holidays to you!!
You set this scene vividly! Beautiful poem!
Such texture here of the senses, sodden hem, old basket, brown paper, evergreen boughs, chestnuts... the memory of a loved one... very nice.
